Amadeus Acoustics has released ART::Director v1.3.1, a software update introducing a Downmix Engine designed to translate immersive, multi-channel venue mixes into standardised formats for broadcast, studio pre-production and ancillary monitoring. The feature allows sound engineers to run multiple customisable speaker-based downmixes in parallel alongside the primary in-house spatial mix, supporting standard formats including stereo, 5.1, 7.1 and Atmos, as well as bespoke loudspeaker configurations.
The company cited Eurovision 2026, where it served as an official technical supplier, as an example of the feature’s application, with the main arena mix needing to serve a spatialised fold-down to the broadcast van for pre-production alongside independent downmix feeds sent to rehearsal and green rooms for cue tracking.
Volker Werner of Amadeus Acoustics said: “Immersive audio shouldn’t be trapped inside the auditorium. The Downmix Engine ensures that whether you are a director checking cues in a stereo rehearsal room, a mix engineer in a mobile broadcast truck, or a performer waiting backstage, the integrity of the acoustic space is perfectly preserved.”
The update also allows sound designers to build and adjust spatial soundscapes offline using standard monitoring setups, before transferring the groundwork to the main stage, reducing on-site technical rehearsal time. Each downmix system includes a size multiplier, individual fade controls for spatial and performing sources, and a dedicated LFE output, with performer sources able to be mapped exclusively to a studio’s frontal loudspeakers. The release also adds pattern-based OSC automation with ADM-OSC compatibility, additional performer source gain offsets, improved Director/DSP connection handling and adjustable crossfades between venue snapshots.
