In the lead up to the entry deadline, we caught up with last year’s Rising Star Award winner (now Industry Newcomer Of The Year Award) Elliott Moores of Visavvi to see ask him what it meant to win and if he had any words of advice to those interested in the Newcomer Award this year.
How did it feel to be recognised at last year’s awards?
To be nominated for last year’s award was very humbling as whilst I am still young I feel like I have been in the industry for a very long time having started on work experience when I was 15 years old.
For this to then lead to me being successful in winning the award was something I had not really considered and was a very pleasant surprise.
Have things changed for you professionally since winning the Rising Star Award?
I had senior and well established people whom I had never met before suddenly connect with me to congratulate me and wish the best of luck with my continued journey which was really nice. But for me the involvement in AVIXA’s Young People Council and Mentor Scheme has been the greatest reward to come out of the winning the award.

Do you think recognition like this is an important part of the industry?
I do, I think its really important because the people who truly care deeply about this industry and the work that they do cannot achieve their goals without sacrifice both personally and professionally. What would you say to someone thinking about nominating a colleague this year?
Do it! This nomination could be the spike of inspiration that person needs to keep them pushing to achieve really great things for themselves, their company and the industry – you never know the positive impact this could have on someone’s journey and mindset.
