Panasonic and Modulo Pi power 360° mapping show at Paris Olympics

Technical producer Magnum chose a Modulo Kinetic media server, along with Panasonic projectors, for projection mapping onto Arc de Tromphe, on Sep 14, marking closure of Paris Olympics

It can now be revealed that, the spectacular video mapping show on the Arc de Triomphe, which marked the closure of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, was delivered by Magnum and powered by Modulo Pi’s Modulo Kinetic media server. The projection mapping was part of the Champions’ Parade celebrations on the Champs-Élysées on September 14.

The parade and ceremonial aspects of the event were complemented by a giant concert and performances on Place de l’Étoile. The Arc de Triomphe was surrounded by a 400m round stage, providing a 360° experience to the audience.

Magnum was entrusted with the technical production of a video mapping projected onto the Arc de Triomphe. A total of 20 x PT-RQ50K Panasonic projectors were installed to illuminate the edifice, as well as 5 x Modulo Kinetic media servers by Modulo Pi.

Throughout the night’s festivities, the mapping projection on the Arc de Triomphe offered highlights of the best moments from the Paris 2024 Games and ceremonies.

Anthony Martel, video supervisor at Magnum, explained: “Modulo Kinetic’s 3D mapping tools helped us calibrate the system quickly, and save a precious amount of time. Working with Modulo Kinetic’s timelines, we could efficiently encode the show and easily handle the different parts of the celebration” comments Anthony Martel.

Following a series of performances by various artists on the circular stage, the Champions’ Parade concluded with an energetic DJ set.

After being in sync with timecode for part of the show, Modulo Kinetic played the VJ contents thanks to low-latency live inputs embedded in Modulo Pi’s media servers.
