Funktion One and Powersoft animate ’42’ London cocktail lounge

Four Funktion One speakers in each main room, driven by Powersoft amplification, have provided the audio for 42, an intimate cocktail lounge showcasing Indian ingredients, in Mayfair, London

Funktion One speakers, driven by Powersoft amplification, have provided the new audio system for 42, an intimate Mayfair cocktail lounge showcasing Indian ingredients, which is located above the two-Michelin star Indian restaurant, Gymkhana. Both the new bar and Gymkhana are owned by the JKS Restaurants group.

HD Pro Audio was entrusted with the audio system at 42 as a regular AV supplier to JKS Restaurants. Andy Huffer, director at HD Pro Audio, led the project, selecting equipment to fit the ambience and to cater for a range of applications from background music to DJ sets and parties.

Huffer opted for four Funktion One F81.2 speakers in each main room, augmented with compact subwoofers located under banquette seating and driven by Powersoft amplification. Custom colour-matching of all visible loudspeakers to wall finishes completed the package.

Even loudspeaker coverage is provided across the venue from the entrance lobby to the bathrooms, with particular focus on the main bar and lounge where performance requirements necessitate an enhanced audio experience.

Huffer said: “The venue’s shift towards a more DJ-focused atmosphere was a key factor in my equipment choice. Brand recognition and superior sound quality were paramount here – Funktion One never fails to impress.”

Joshua Everton, head of music & live events manager at JKS Restaurants, added: “We have been highly impressed by the new Funktion One system installed at 42. The clarity, tone and low-end drive from the speakers has created a truly elevated audio experience for our late-night guests. Andy Huffer has been AV engineer at JKS Restaurants for over half a decade now. We completely trust his vision and knowledge and look forward to continuing to work on future projects together.”
