The installed system includes an Eclipse Omega Digital matrix with 96 ports and 20 Eclipse V-Series panels, a FreeSpeak network of advanced antennae and 20 programmable digital belt-packs. The FreeSpeak active antennae can be situated anywhere around the studio complex, with digital belt-pack users moving as required while still remaining in direct contact with the Clear-Com Eclipse digital matrix.
“One of our main goals was to have an intercom system that could work across the whole studio complex and would also be able to expand with our growing production needs,” commented Miguel Angelo Oliveira, chief radio and television engineer at RTP. “All these requirements – but particularly the mobility aspect for floor assistants – were solved with the integration of the Clear-Com digital wireless system into the intercom network.”
Karlie Miles, EMEA director of sales at Clear-Com, told II: “It was a privilege to be chosen by RTP to provide an intercom system able to work across the whole studio complex. Together, Clear-Com and our partners Auvid Cientifico delivered the first installation, in Portugal, of an Eclipse Omega-based system that is supported by the new V-Series panels and integrated FreeSpeak system, which met all of RTP’s requirements.”
Key features of the new V-Series Panels include ten character display, international character support and a ‘Listen Again’ function that enables the user to re-hear the last 15 seconds of any incoming call. Meanwhile, the FreeSpeak digital belt-pack is said to offer a high level of functionality, including caller privacy through point-to-point calls. Light in weight, FreeSpeak incorporates a high-impact weatherproof casing and up to 12 hours’ battery life, making it ideally suited to long shifts in the studio.
