Brompton and ROE installed in Thailand’s premier VR facility

Figment Studio, which opened in Samut Prakan, Thailand, in September, features a ROE LED wall, Brompton 4K Tessera SX40 LED processors and nine Tessera XD 10G data distribution units

Brompton Tessera LED processing combined with ROE LED panels have been installed in a new virtual production facility, in Thailand – Figment Studio – which has been widely acclaimed as “the most advanced VR technology in Southeast Asia”. The new facility opened in Samut Prakan, Thailand, in September.

The studio was born from a collaboration and 200m baht (£4.6m) joint investment between business partners, including The Studio Park, which offers Thailand’s largest sound stage and filming locations in Samut Prakan, where numerous Hollywood productions have been filmed. The other major investors were StageFor, an expert in XR and virtual production in Thailand, and Supreme Studio, the first company to import VR tech to Thailand and Southeast Asia.

The studio features ROE Visual DM 2.6 LED wall measuring 28m by 5m and a 6m by 3m Carbon CB3 ceiling, all driven by four 4K Tessera SX40 LED processors and nine Tessera XD 10G data distribution units.

The LED panels were calibrated with Brompton’s Hydra measurement system at the manufacturer’s factory to ensure they are Brompton HDR-ready and can fully support Rec2020 colour space.

This setup supports both 2D and 3D workflows, utilising a combination of disguise vx4, Unreal Engine N-Display, Stype Redspy tracking, Bolt and Optitrack for motion capture and Virtual Scouting (Simulcam).

Committed to helping local production professionals access VP and ICVFX technology, Figment Studio’s mission is to transform the facility into a hub for learning and experimenting with new creative ideas.

Chayanont Ulit, managing director, Figment Studio, said: “We believe this will foster sustainable growth for Thailand’s film industry as a whole, and position Thailand as the centre and destination for filmmaking in the Southeast Asian region.”

Ulit also highlights the studio’s expert team, which includes VP technical director, Noppon, who brings extensive experience from working with Netflix and on FX Network’s Alien: Earth production. The team also includes Damon H Chung, the studio’s VP producer. With three Netflix projects and one production with FX Networks already completed, Figment Studio is gearing up for a major project next year.

Elijah Ebo, director of APAC operations at Brompton Technology, concluded: “It’s so rewarding to see our Tessera processors and the latest software features play a crucial role in advancing the creative and technical capabilities of Figment Studio. Their team’s commitment to excellence in virtual production reflects our passion for providing the best LED video processing technology, and it’s no surprise that major clients like Netflix and FX trust them to bring their boldest visions to life.”
