Bose audio powers Roe ‘creative dining’ restaurant, London

Bose supplied the restaurant in Canary Wharf with an audio system to provide background music in daytime and support DJ sets in the evening, including concealed in-ceiling speakers

Bose audio, including in-ceiling loudspeakers, has been installed in the new creative dining restaurant Roe, in the hub of Wood Wharf, in London’s Canary Wharf. The menu aims to minimise food wastage by following a nose-to-tail and root-to-stem ethos, and it promotes under-appreciated British ingredients.

London-based integrator Marquee AV was tasked with designing an audio system that provides background music during the day and supports dynamic DJ sets in the evening. The venue also features two private dining rooms, one of which can be used for video conferencing, which had to be incorporated into the audio design.

The building’s unique layout and decor presented challenges for the audio design. The client sought a solution that was concealed amongst the modern, coral-reef themed décor. The circular building features glass windows across all the external walls, presenting acoustical challenges.

Marquee AV says the FreeSpace 3 Acoustimass series in-ceiling loudspeakers offer “high-quality performance for background music”, and paired with the FreeSpace 3 Acoustimass flush mounted Bass Modules, deliver a “strong sound” for DJ sets.

Strategically positioned across the venue’s main dining areas, the audio set-up is designed to provide a “smooth and consistent sound”. The ceiling-disguised outer shell blends with the restaurant’s minimalistic design, and Marquee AV says it is unnoticeable behind the wooden detailing.

The ground floor of Roe features a bright private dining area with large windows, framed by the restaurant’s aeroponic farming system. This method of growing produce without soil, by spraying the plants with nutrients, enhances the forest-like ambience of the space.

To complement this, the Bose Professional FS4CE speakers are integrated into the ceiling. Marquee AV says the FS4CE speakers ensure that the “serene atmosphere of the forest-themed room is maintained while delivering clear and immersive audio for diners”.

The first-floor private dining area, which can accommodate videoconferencing, is potentially a valuable feature for a restaurant surrounded by corporate offices. For this, Marquee AV implemented the Bose Professional VB1, completed with two FS4SE speakers.

Roe is the latest addition by the team behind the sister restaurants Fallow and FOWL. Named after the native deer of the British Isles, Roe continues the “conscious and creative dining” principle seen in its sister restaurants. The menu aims to minimise food wastage by following a nose-to-tail and root-to-stem ethos, and it promotes under-appreciated British ingredients.
