Audiovisual supplier and integrator @media partnered with the Kinepolis Group in the company’s quest to make games accessible in its 22 cinema complexes located throughout Belgium, France, Spain, Poland and Switzerland. Dubbed XL-Gaming, the innovative initiative delivers Sony Playstation 3 games on large digital cinema screens using Texas Instruments’ DLP projection technology.
“Kinepolis uses a PS3 system provided by Sony with their high definition projectors,” explains Tom Hertsens, sales manager for @media. “To extend the video and audio, they needed a qualitative and reliable solution, which we offered with the Gefen DVI Audio CAT5 Extender.”
This extension solution enables the transmission of digital high definition video over DVI supplemented with both digital (S/PDIF and TOSlink) and analogue (RCA stereo) audio up to 60 meters in distance using two category-5 cables.
In the cinemas, the PS3 is located in the middle of the theatre while the Gefen DVI Audio CAT-5 Extender delivers audio to the THX system and video to the projector, enabling gamers to enjoy the lifelike imagery on the screen enhanced by surround sound audio.
