Digital artist Jeroen van der Most will give a keynote at ISE 2024 on Wednesday 31 January. He will also be creating content for a massive new transparent LED screen on the Fira façade.
His works have been commissioned by organisations including Amnesty International, NVIDIA, NH hotels, Sogeti, and Nike/Footlocker, and have been displayed in museums such as Te Papa (the Museum of New Zealand) and ZKM Kahlsruhe, as well as at art fairs, conferences and technology fairs.
Jeroen came into digital art through working as a marketing data scientist, using AI algorithms to understand how people were talking about brands online. In 2010, he started to use these same algorithms to create artworks.
His work explores “rethinking how we use technology,” he says. “Technology is often used in a very rational and commercial way for productivity gains, efficiency gains and so on. What I try to do is ask if we can connect with our hearts again using technology. Can we build deeper relationships with nature or deeper connections with other people?”
His ISE keynote is entitled Breaking Boundaries with Creative AI. What can the audience expect? “First, I will explore how we can innovate art, using AI to change it from something static into something more fluid,” he explains. “Then I’ll explore using technologies such as AI to build closer, deeper relationships with non-human entities. Finally, I will take the audience on a journey into my mind using AI – it’ll be a bizarre trip where you’ll encounter some weird things.”
Jeroen will also be contributing content to a new LED display on the façade of the South Access of the Fira de Barcelona. On the newly unveiled 193m2 transparent screen he will create a live show titled Bee Barcelona; he will construct an AI-based replica of his creative mind, taking the audience on an immersive journey through his thoughts. A distinctive aspect of the performance involves merging his AI mind with that of a bee, aiming to redesign and transform the city of Barcelona into a symbolic hive.
Jeroen van der Most’s ISE Keynote takes place at 17:15 on Wednesday 31 January on the ISE Show Floor Stage in Hall 4.
