Daktronics installs LED at two stadia in Canberra

The GIO Stadium and the Manuka Oval host many sports all year-round in Australian capital. With Daktronics controls, the displays are capable of variable content zoning

Daktronics has installed new LED video displays at two sporting venues in Canberra, the capital of Australia, where several different sports are played all-year round. The displays are for the GIO Stadium, where rugby union and rugby league are the main sports, and for the Manuka Oval, which is primarily used for cricket during the summer months and Australian rules football in winter.

Daktronics partnered with ACT Government’s Venues Canberra, a group managing both venues. The installation was completed by Kydan Pty and has now been activated for audiences at the largest outdoor entertainment venues in Canberra.

Located at the northern end of each venue, the new video displays measure 7.68 metres high by 19.75 metres wide (25 feet by 65 feet) at GIO Stadium, and 8.76 metres high by 20.8 metres wide (29 feet by 68 feet) at Manuka Oval. They feature a 15HD pixel layout.

Including custom Daktronics control systems, the displays are capable of variable content zoning. This allows each to show one large image, or to display multiple zones of digital content, including live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages.

“The game-day experience for our patrons is significantly enhanced with the new LED video displays at Manuka Oval and GIO Stadium Canberra,” said Matt Elkins, executive branch manager, Venues Canberra. “We’re now well into the footy season with Brumbies, Raiders and GWS Giants fans benefiting from the live game information.”

Matthew Hanna, sales representative, Daktronics. “These stadiums are delivering an amazing fan experience using Daktronics LED technology and control systems for a dynamic presentation. We’re extremely excited to have partnered with Venues Canberra for the LED upgrades to these already fantastic live event venues.”

Venues Canberra manage GIO Stadium Exhibition Park (EPIC), in Canberra, and Manuka Oval. These are Canberra’s leading sporting, event and function venues. Some of the major clients include the ACT Brumbies, Canberra Raiders, GWS Giants, Cricket Australia, Summernats, National Folk Festival and Handmade Markets. EPIC also manages a camping/caravan park on its site with over 200 spaces.
